Bonnie Jean Hovey

Bonnie Jean Hovey – September 10, 2026, age 81 Canton. Born on May 6, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to Victor and Lillian Battestill. Bonnie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She graduated from Thurston High School and went on to dedicate her life to the people she loved most—her family. Bonnie shared 65 wonderful years with the love of her life, Jerrold Hovey, whom she married on October 7, 1961, in Redford, Michigan. Together, they built what Bonnie considered her greatest achievement: the most wonderful family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jerrold; her children, Randall (Sara Rodriguez) Hovey, Todd (Kerri) Hovey, and Kelli (Matt) Bennett; her grandchildren, Meghan (Tony) Pancoast, Adam Wasielewski, Lindsay (Chris) Goins, Lauren (Tim) Patterson, Alison (Matt) Babic, Jacob (Allison) Hovey, Nick Hovey, Gavin Hovey, Sarah (Tyler Magee) Hovey; and her great grandchildren, Addison, Kayden, Lacey, Mason, Maverick, Cameron, Madelyn, Chase, Hazel, and Kennedy. Each of them brought her endless joy and pride. Bonnie especially cherished her role as a grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and being their “Gigi” was truly her greatest joy. Her family will always remember her love, laughter, warmth, and the special way she made everyone feel at home. Bonnie enjoyed gardening, crocheting, wreath making, crafting, and spending time with her family. Above all, she loved creating memories with the people she loved. Her family remembers her playful spirit and her familiar words, “Are we having fun yet?” and “You know what they say!”; two sayings that perfectly captured her personality and her approach to life. Bonnie is also survived by her siblings, Arthur (Sue) Christie and Bonnie Zierden, along with numerous extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her. A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 16, from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Phoenix Mills, 15000 Edward N Hines Dr, Plymouth, MI 48170. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Charlie’s Angels Racing,1219 Washtenaw Ave., Ypsilanti, MI 48197.
