Diane Kecskes

Diane Kecskes, born Anita Diane Abruzzo, 86, of Plymouth, MI, passed away peacefully on November 15th, 2025. A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Diane was also a dear friend to many. She is survived by her two sons, Kevin and Keith, daughter-in-law Lisa, and her four grandchildren, Sophia, Nico, Carson, and Quinn. As the eldest of eight, Diane is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Susan, Michele, Michael, Pam, David, Anthony, and Christopher. Diane was born on February 28th, 1939, in Detroit, MI. In her teenage years, the Abruzzo family moved to Wayne, MI, where Diane graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1957. It was at St. Mary’s that Diane met her future husband, John Kecskes. They were married August 1st, 1959, and their first child, Kevin, was born September 24th, 1960. The next years were busy for Diane, as she balanced motherhood while working nights and weekends to help support John through college and dental school. After John graduated and began practicing dentistry, the Kecskes family grew with the birth of Keith on June 29th, 1967. Once John’s dentistry career was established, Diane balanced motherhood while also making a personal change toward what became a rewarding career and a perfect outlet for her energy and gregarious nature. In 1977, Diane became a licensed real estate agent and spent the next 30 years helping hundreds of families find their perfect homes. By the time she retired, she had several clients that had come full circle: having sold young families their first home, she was entrusted years later to sell the children their first homes as well. Diane’s generosity of spirit and deeply ingrained desire to help meant that the Kecskes phone never stopped ringing. Diane was available to anyone who needed her. To support her sons, she spent countless hours in freezing ice rinks, on baseball diamonds, and in the bleachers for football games. Rain or shine, Diane was the best cheerleader and was recognizable in every sporting venue as having the first and loudest cheer. Later in life, as she became a grandmother, Diane was once again on the sidelines to watch soccer, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, and softball. She introduced herself as “Grandma Di” to every child, and woe to any competitor that dared to take a run at her grandchildren! Diane’s life was full of love, joy, and lots of laughter. She had a gift for never taking herself too seriously. The best sound was hearing her deep chuckle. She could make anyone around her laugh, even if they didn’t know the reason. Diane made everyone feel like family, and it was no secret that her garage door was always open and there was a seat at the dinner table for anyone who dropped in. Her legendary spaghetti and Christmas cutout cookies were just a couple of her signature dishes. Although she passed these recipes down to us, we will never be able to completely duplicate her magic. To know Diane was to know love the way it is meant to be: unconditional, unwavering, and always loyal. Although we celebrate a life well lived, we miss her deeply. Her spirit, humor, and generosity enriched all who knew her. We rejoice that she is freed from her constraints and has been reunited with those who have gone before. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. The family will host a Celebration of Life for Diane in the spring of 2026.
