Dr. Suresh C. Bansal

Dr. Suresh C. Bansal, 83, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Born in Chakwal, Punjab, he was the seventh child of Budh Ram Aggarwal and Kaushlya Devi. The family fled to Kurali as refugees in 1947 and quickly established deep roots in the community, especially through the school his father founded, the Chakwal National School. From there, Suresh’s commitment to education continued throughout his life, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College and a Ph.D. in Engineering from Wayne State University. After a fruitful career as an automotive engineer at Ford Motor Company, he returned to this passion in 1997, when he began teaching graduate-level engineering courses at Lawrence Technological University. When not improving the design of the world around him, Suresh was often found in his garden. Sharing his harvest with the community was not only a point of pride for him but also allowed him to nourish his neighborhood and the environment. Throughout his life, and especially during retirement, Suresh and his loving wife of 56 years travelled the world, though they always found their way home to Plymouth, Michigan, where they raised their four daughters. As one of the first Indian immigrants to the Metro Detroit area in 1965, Suresh’s impact on the community was immeasurable. From helping immigrant families with transportation, housing, basic needs, and employment to establishing weekend Hindi classes, he worked to preserve his culture in his adopted home. As the resident photographer, he was often the one behind the camera, documenting his family and friends’ many milestones over the years. He is survived by his wife, Rashmi; children, Shally (Timothy) Stanley, Trisha (James) Nashed, Sharon (George) Blaha, and Monisha (Jacob) Blair; sister, Nirmal (Mohinder) Kumar; and grandchildren, Calvin (Deanna) Stanley, Mark Stanley, Daniel Stanley, Luke Stanley, Mitchell Blaha, Matthew Blaha, Kirin Nashed, Michael Nashed, Leila Blair, and Wyatt Blair. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 27 at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 980 North Newburgh Road (between Ford Road and Cherry Hill), Westland from 10:00 AM until 12 PM.
