Lucille Irene Briski

Lucille Irene Briski, 89, of Garden City, passed away May 31, 2011, at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, where she had been a patient for several days. Lucille was born July 21, 1921, in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Clifford and Lilvie (Stowell) Stombaugh, and was raised in Reedsburg. Lucille was united in marriage to Anton Briski, Jr. on December 24, 1943. She and Anton resided in Trimountain throughout their married life. After Anton’s death in 1997, she made her home at Arbor Green in Houghton. Since 2006, Lucille has lived in Garden City with her son and daughter-in-law, Paul & Gloria Briski, spending her weekends with her son Curtis in Pontiac. Lucille spent most of her early years as a homemaker and later was employed in the housekeeping department at Cypress Manor in Hancock for 16 years, retiring in 1989. She was also active in the Jeffers High School Music Parents Association during the 1970’s. Over the years, Lucille loved to cook and bake, work crossword puzzles, go on shopping outings, take walks with friends and watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Breakfasts and lunches out with family and playing Scrabble also gave her much enjoyment. Most recently, she took great pleasure with her four great grandchildren, whom she adored, and her two ‘grand cats’, Zoe and Maggie, who provided her with many hours of wonderment and amazement. In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded in death by her sister, Vera Jeannotte; her brother, Milton Stombaugh; her grandsons, Stephen Briski and Duane Briski; her niece, Shirley Jeannotte; and her nephew, Michael Stombaugh. Lucille is survived by her sons, Paul (Gloria) Briski of Garden City and Curtis Briski of Pontiac; her stepson, Anthony (Kay) Briski of Janesville, Wisconsin; her grandsons, David Briski of Garden City, Jason (Lora) Briski of Chicago and Brian Briski of Howell; her great grandchildren, Jessica Briski and Brandon Briski, both of Belding, and Katie Briski and Angelina Briski, both of Westland; her nieces, Karen (Charles Peterson) Ponce and Patricia (Frank) Almaguer, both of Elgin, Illinois; Anton’s nieces and nephews, Deloris Bracket of Ramsay, Patricia (Vernon) Carlson and Gary (Ann) Valentino, both of Punta Gorda, Florida; Leon (Sheila) Shuler of Milford and Willard (Susan) Shuler of Hobart, Wisconsin; and Anton’s cousins, Val Mihelcic of Trimountain, and Sandra (Dennis) Butterfield of Morristown, Arizona, along with many other relatives and friends. At Lucille’s request, there will be no visitation or public memorial. A private graveside service and inurnment at Mountain View Cemetery in South Range will be held at a later date. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests donations be made to the American Hearing Research Foundation, the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, or the American Diabetes Association to assist in finding a cure or advanced treatment of Meniere’s disease, macular degeneration or diabetes, all of which afflicted Lucille for many years of her life.
