Mary Susan Copithorne Robinson

Mary Susan Copithorne Robinson - June 12, 2026 age 83 of Canton, Michigan. Mary Susan was born in Iowa City, Iowa, the first child of Josephine Benrose Copithorne and John W. Copithorne who were serving in the field for the American Friends Service Committee. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Peter York Robinson, her sister Elizabeth Garvey, niece Susan (Troy) Baker, nephew Chris (Annette) Garvey, great-nephews David (Becky), Steve (Shilee), & Aidan, and great-nieces Becca & Aspen; and cousins Brian Hollinshead and Jean Mullen of County Dublin, Ireland. As a child, she came to know Jesus and placed her faith in Him. Her family finds peace knowing that she is with her heavenly Father. Known as Susan to many friends, she grew up in the Moorestown, New Jersey area and finished secondary school in Philadelphia, graduating from Germantown High School in 1960. Susan earned her bachelor’s degree from Wilmington College in Ohio in 1965. Her great joy was teaching pre-school aged children and elementary up through second grade at Goshen Friends School and other Quaker and private schools in the greater Philadelphia area. For many years Susan honed her skills in needle arts including embroidery and crewel stitch, as well as cross-stitch, and became a keen quilter. She was an avid photographer who originally worked in black & white photography and developed her own film. She enjoyed creating beautiful things and especially enjoyed her flower gardens and cultivating butterfly plantings. Susan adored their Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, having trained her first Cavalier as a certified therapy dog. Susan and Peter relocated from Malvern, PA to Canton, Michigan 21 years ago to be near her nephew and niece’s growing young families. They found community at Trinity EPC and enjoyed many new friendships in Michigan. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 18th, friends and family will gather starting at 10 AM until the 11 AM Service at Trinity Church, 10101 Ann Arbor Road West, Plymouth.
