Susan Yates Isbister

Susan Yates Isbister (Slack), age 85, passed away at Northville Pointe Senior Assisted Living on August 15, 2026. Sue was born November 13, 1940, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and was preceded in death by her parents Roy Collins Slack and Harriet Yates, step father Felix Gillham, sister, Maryanne Olson (Richard) and her loving husband Robert Isbister. She was a graduate of Creston High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Western Michigan University where she earned both Bachelors and Masters Degrees. Sue met Bob while they were students at WMU. They enjoyed spending many summers at Oak Beach, Michigan, their retirement years wintering in Indian Shores, Florida, and taking vacations with their friends from Western. Sue was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, who passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends. She devoted more than 30 years of her life to teaching elementary school children in the South Redford School District. She touched the lives of countless students and families with her dedication, patience, and caring nature. Teaching was more than a career for Sue - it was a way to make a difference in the lives of others. Family and friendships were at the heart of her life. She is survived by her son, Steven, daughter-in-law, Charlotte, and grandson, Ryan. She will also be deeply missed by the many friends whose lives were enriched over the years. Sue had a wonderful appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid card player who enjoyed the fun and companionship that came with a good game. She loved card making, shopping, going out to lunch with friends, and spending time with the people she cared about. She was a friend to many and had a gift for making those around her feel welcome and valued. Her home was always open to Steve and his friends for a chat, a meal, or just a hug. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and friendship. Visitation will take place on Friday, September 25, 2026 at 12 noon until the memorial service honoring Sue at 2:00 p.m. at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 Ann Arbor Road West (between Sheldon and Beck) Plymouth.
