Wesley Brooks Johnson

Wesley Brooks Johnson of Plymouth, Michigan—better known as The Best Boy in the Whole Wide World—passed away peacefully in his parents’ arms on September 4th, 2026, at the age of 6. Wesley was born on May 17th, 2020, to the luckiest parents in the whole wide world, Matthew and Lisa (Auge) Johnson. A sweet, sweet boy with the most beautiful blue eyes, adorable smile, award-winning toes (as declared by his Mother for their absolute cuteness), baby-like giggles even still at 6 years old, and an exceptionally kind and polite nature, Wesley absolutely loved his life. More than a little boy who played with toys, Wesley considered himself a collector. His largest collection was his Funko Pops, affectionately called “Bungo Pops,” which filled every surface, nook, and cranny of his home. One of his favorite pastimes was shopping for Funko Pops on the Amazon or eBay app as he watched Big City Greens minimized in the corner of his iPad screen, sending them to his parents or Grandmother to purchase, and watching the tracking to see if “anything is coming today.” He was also a collector of stuffies, Beaker Creatures, Beast Labs, Grossery Gang toys, Pokémon Cards, California Raisin figurines, Moshlings, and any other niche collectible toy no longer in production found only on eBay for at least 10 times the original price. He had a particular soft spot in his heart for the Fast Foodie series of Hot Wheels, especially the “Roller Toaster,” which he was currently on a mission to find in every single color available. He loved the thrill of trying to complete all his collections. However, Wesley never played favorites. If you asked him which Funko Pop or toy he liked best, he’d say, “All of them!” His favorite color? “All of them!” And who did he love most? “Everyone.” Wesley had a strong passion for coloring, creating his own unique lines inside of coloring pages and being extremely careful to never use the same color twice. He frequently requested others to draw “Folding Surprises” with him, but he asked no one more often than his Father, whose artistic skill and patience were far better than the rest of us. He loved to find obscure characters in the background of some movie or TV show, take a picture and have his Dad use AI to turn it into a coloring page for him to color. If he was particularly fond of you, you may have received one or even many of his creations as he loved to gift them to those he loved most. Wesley also had many other hobbies and interests. He dreamed of growing up to be the world’s first Painter/Clown/“Bungo Pop” Maker/Ninja/Cake Pop Maker/Astronaut. All one career. He loved music—especially Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” “Fireball,” by Pitbull, “Raining Tacos,” by Parry Gripp, and the Ghostbusters theme song. He loved swimming, waterparks, baseball, and Disney World. He loved finding pine cones and picking dandelions to give to his Mother. A huge video game lover, he would yell “See you later, Sucker!” or “Smell you later!” while racing you in Mario Kart, though it was a well-known rule that no one in the family was allowed to beat him under any circumstance. And he deeply enjoyed making many crafts with his Grandmother, most notably the incredibly time-consuming sock puppets. A frequent flyer in the Child Life play rooms, Wesley loved nothing more than to make slime. It’s a carefully curated process. He loved to pick out the colors. And the glitter. And add clay or shaving cream. He loved to see how it turned out. Despite the very restrictive “one slime a day” rule, he figured out a workaround by telling Child Life he simply wanted to split his slime in half so that he could make two colors, instead of one. To which they could not argue. There were few places Wesley would rather be than sitting right in between his two sisters Evie (9) and Ellie (14). He commonly requested “the whole family” to be together. He loved to play board games with them. It brought him much joy to draw pictures for Ellie and he knew just how to tug at her heartstrings when there was a special pet he wanted her to buy him on the game Adopt Me. He and his sister Evie spent an immense amount of time together in particular. He adored swinging with her while blasting their favorite songs, playing kitchen with her, dancing with her, watching Bluey and inappropriate YouTube videos they found hilarious, swimming together while declaring, “Tippy toes, I don’t see your tippy toes!” and playing their very favorite game “School Bus.” He loved to tell his sisters how much he loved them and that they were the best sisters a boy could ever have. During his many visits to hospital gift shops or treasure closets, he spent much of his time looking for gifts for them rather than for himself. You could frequently hear Wesley begging his Dad to wrap him up in blankets like a Burrito, dip him like a chip, and feed him to various family members. He found endless joy in having his Dad play “Rocket Ship” and the “Rainbow Jump,” and having him tell him jokes he’d later forget, saying, “What was that joke again, Daddy?” In the mornings when Daddy went off to work, Wesley always made sure to tell him goodbye and, “I love you! You’re my best friend!” And at night, after snuggling on the couch with Daddy playing the “Yeti Game” or “Plants vs Zombies,” he loved to request his Dad to put him to bed in “Fast Mode” where his father took him upstairs as fast as he possibly could while pretending to be a robot only Wesley could operate. Wesley was not an adventurous eater, but very, VERY fond of his “Morning Drink,” an organic, low-sugar chocolate milk his Mother made him drink, his peanut butter puffs, his “triangle chips” (a specific brand of avocado oil tortilla chips his Mother made him eat) about which he frequently asked, “Why are these so good? What do they put in these things?!,” two pieces “stuck together” of low-sugar chocolate (Again, his Mother, I know), chicken fries, bacon, pizza, McDonald’s French Fries—specifically, the “wiggly” ones—and more than anything: his favorite culinary masterpiece, Peanut Butter Toast. But not just any Peanut Butter Toast. Peanut Butter Toast made by Mommy. Much to the dismay of everyone who tried and failed to recreate it, only Mommy can spread the peanut butter in the exact perfect thickness. Only Mommy knows exactly the temperature the toast must be at to get the perfect melt. Only Mom knows how to cut the toast perfectly, and how to place it precisely on the plate so that he can eat it exactly how he likes. And only Mommy knew how to put “all the love in it,” his favorite special ingredient. Perhaps his favorite place to be was at his Mother’s side. If he was not right next to her, he would ask anyone and everyone, “Where’s Mommy?” With her, he loved to be picked up, to snuggle, hug, hold hands, dance with, and give kisses in a very specific organized way (cheek, cheek, forehead, nose, chin, side of neck, other side, middle). He loved to have her play “restaurant,” making her coffee, crazy smoothie concoctions, disgusting ice cream flavors, and presenting her with the bill costing well over a million dollars—only to generously inform her that actually, hers was free. At bedtime, even at 6 years old, he still loved to hear her read “The Going to Bed Book” and “Goodnight, Moon” and to finish all her sentences. He loved to find that mouse. He loved to hear her sing his special song. Always reminded by her each night that he is indeed the Best Boy in the Whole Wide World, he loved to tell her right back that she was the Best Mommy in the Whole Wide World. Wesley is survived by his parents, Matthew and Lisa Johnson; his sisters, Ellie and Evie; his grandparents; and two recently purchased hamsters, Chicken and Nugget. He was preceded in death by the family hamster, Luna, whom he much preferred over the other two. While six years with Wesley will never be enough, we are, without a doubt, the luckiest family in the whole wide world to know him, to love him, and, most of all, to be loved by him. Wesley, you are in our hearts, our minds, the air we breathe, the sky, the clouds, the moon, the birds—you are everywhere. You are the rainbows. You’re the Best Boy in the Whole Wide World, and we love you so much.
