Edmund Joseph Knittel, 84, of Plymouth MI passed away peacefully with family by his side on February 5th 2021. Beloved husband of Nina for 49 years. He was one of 11 children born to the late John Martin and Mary Catherine (Dwyer) Knittel. Eddie was preceded in death by his brothers Richard, John (Joan), Gerald (Sue), Dennis and his sister Jeannine. Eddie is survived by his brother James (Ann) Knittel and sisters Suzanne (the late Jack) Hinds, Mary (William) Ulle, Joanne (the late Mark) Allen and Kathleen (Greg) Plymale as well as his sister-in-law May Knittel and brother-in-law Steve (Carla) Poma. Eddie had over 20 nieces & nephews as well as over 40 great nieces & nephews who loved him like a father/grandfather. Family always came first. Eddie was born in Detroit MI on April 16th 1936. He attended McKenzie High school and the University of Detroit Mercy. He was a veteran in the United States Army. He played baseball for many years and was recruited by the New York Giants. He ultimately decided to remain with his family and serve his city as a Detroit Police Officer for 25 years. He was a Lead Security Officer at Providence Hospital for another 12 years. In retirement, he could be found as a Starter at Western Golf Course or playing a round of golf around town. If you heard laughter roaring from the clubhouse, it was likely Eddie telling one of his jokes. He loved to make people laugh and he mastered it. His humor and charm will truly be missed by his family and friends. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 12th from 2:00-8:00 PM. at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 Ann Arbor Road West (Between Sheldon & Beck), Plymouth. Rosary Friday 6 PM. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, February 13th at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 47650 N. Territorial Road, Plymouth. Eddie will be in state at the church beginning at 10:30 AM.
