Ellen E. Thompson
August 16, 1938 - September 19, 2020
On September 19th, 2020 God called Ellen home. She was surrounded by family, friends, and compassionate caregivers at Angela Hospice in Livonia, MI. Ellen was born in Queens, New York to Herbert and Florence Hood. Ellen was the eldest child and sister to three brothers; Brian, Rory (Patricia) and Sean (Donna) Hood. Together with Donald Edward Thompson she raised three children; Donald (Deborah) Thompson, Kathleen (Lawrence) Quick, and Brendan (Kim) Thompson. Ellen has four grandchildren, Colleen Aponte, Ryan Quick, Conor Thompson, and Layne Thompson. Ellen was a graduate of Mount Aloysius College, SUNY Empire and Hunter College culminating in a Masters’ of Social Work. She was licensed to practice in both New York and Michigan. One of Ellen’s greatest joys was ministering to others from her ‘private’ practices in New York and Michigan. A life long spiritual guide to many she worked with and most recently worshipped at Our Lady Good Counsel. She lived with the mantra of “Let go and let God;” a message she felt was all the more relevant today. Whilst Mom also lived in Texas and Michigan, she was forever a New Yorker. Her dear friends here in Michigan and those around the United States know how she loved a good Coney Island style New York hot dog and diet Coke. We are grateful for our time together and the compassionate life lessons she passed along. Memorial Visitation Tuesday, September 22nd 6-8 PM at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 Ann Arbor Road West, (btwn Sheldon & Beck) Plymouth, MI 48170. Gathering of family & friends Wednesday, September 23rd 9:00 AM until the Wednesday 9:30 AM Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 47650 North Territorial Road, (at Beck) Plymouth, MI 48170. In lieu of flowers, Ellen requests donations to Angela Hospice. To share a memory, please use the share a memory tab on this webpage.
