Hazel Laura Tykoski Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Hazel Laura Tykoski,age 94, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2022 while receiving hospice care at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born and raised in Lenawee County MI. and moved to Wayne MI with her family after high school. She graduated from Cleary Clerical College in Ypsilanti, MI. in 1947. Subsequently, she worked as the secretary for the city of Wayne, MI until she married. Hazel was united in marriage to Leo J. Tykoski on June 19,1948 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Garden City, MI. They raised their 6 children in Westland, MI. She worked for 12 years, in food service, for Wayne Westland Schools. Upon retirement, she and Leo moved to Gaylord, MI. They had many happy years together in their home in the woods of beautiful northern MIchigan until Leo’s passing in 2005. After his death, she returned to Westland to be near her family. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents Francis Marion and Alice Mae (Case), her sister Vanyce Roach along with several sisters and brothers-in-law. She is survived by her children Lee (Donna) Tykoski of Canton, MI, Daniel (Sandy) Tykoski of Westland MI, Alan (Kathy) Tykoski of Canton, MI, Beverly (Gary) Gregg of Port Hope,MI, Laura (Scott) Miller of Canton, MI, Linda (Peter) Campos of Poway, CA, 22 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren, 4 sisters in-law, Leona (Jim) Haworth of Vanderbilt, MI, Vickie Tykoski of Kalamazoo MI, Chris (Bob) Zamzow of Casa Grande, AZ and Cindy (Rick) Webber of Ridgecrest CA, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Hazel enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, a passion she passed on to her family. Some of her favorite pastimes were listening to music, dancing, Tiger baseball, word search and bingo. Her grandchildren have many happy memories of playing pass the ace and drinking Grammie’s delicious hot chocolate at the trailer on the farm. She will always be remembered as an intelligent, compassionate women, full of faith and understanding with the best sense of humor, and an overflowing amount of love for her family. We will miss your wisdom, your laughter and most of all your love of life. She will be forever in our hearts. Visitation Monday, June 27th 2-8 PM at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 980 N. Newburgh Road (between Ford Road and Cherry Hill) Westland. Rosary at 7 PM. In state Tuesday, June 28th 9:30 AM until the 10 AM Funeral Mass at St. Richard Catholic Church, 35851 Cherry Hill Road, Westland. Interment Cadillac Memorial Gardens, Westland.
