Manubhai Gordhaivbhai Patel

May 21, 1945 - December 10, 2021

Manubhai G Patel, loving Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, and Friend to many, went with Lord Krishna on Friday, December 10, 2021. Manu, also known as Madhavadas, was born in India, graduated college and traveled to the United States to pursue his master’s in engineering in 1969 at the age 24 with only $6 in his possession. His mentor and uncle, Chimanbhai Patel helped Manu settle into his new life in America. In 1973, Manu traveled to India over winter holidays and met his beautiful wife, Ila. While in Detroit working at Ford Motor Company, Madhavadas joined ISKCON as a devotee at the Hare Krishna Temple. In 1980, Madhavadas moved his wife and daughter, Radhika, to Mombasa, Kenya where the family served the ISKCON temple there for 8 years. After leaving Mombasa, the family that now included his son, Kishan, traveled and lived in many places. Upon returning to Michigan where his and Ila’s brothers and sisters had settled, Madhavadas and Ila opened Krisha Catering & Restaurant in Garden City in 1994. Every decision and adventure that Madhavadas guided his family and friends through was based in generosity, kindness, and exuding love for others. Madhavadas’ guiding principles were rooted in the scriptures that drove him to ensure that all that he encountered found success and joy in their daily lives. His legacy of charitable living includes his time building the Hare Krishna Temple in Mombasa, contributing to the Hindu community in the greater Detroit area, and using Krishna Catering & Restaurant as a platform for community outreach. His home has become a place of worship and Madhavadas’ greatest joy was to hold prayers and worship all throughout the years. Madhavadas performed many ceremonial services for engagements, weddings, and celebrations of life for many families in the community. Through his work within the community and beyond, his contributions are embedded into each of our life stories. Manubhai / Madhavadas is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ilaben Patel, and his children and their spouses Radhika (Saj) Issac and Kishan (Lipika) Patel, and grandchildren, Anjali and Isiah. Service honoring a father and brother to many in our community will be on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 Ann Arbor Road West, Plymouth, (between Sheldon and Beck Road), 734-459-2250.
