Charles Melvin Mau

Charles “Charlie” Mau. August 16, 2026, age 77 of Roscommon, MI. Beloved father of Becky and Melissa Mau. Proud grandfather of Riley Mau. Chuck was a graduate of Cody High School in Detroit, MI where he played the trombone in the high school band and met lifelong friends. Chuck served in the Army and was stationed in Oklahoma, where he continued his love of music by playing in the marching band. Chuck worked at Sinai-Grace Hospital until retirement, when he fulfilled his dream of moving up north near Higgins Lake. He chose this place after spending many fall seasons in the area bow-hunting for deer. While mostly unsuccessful, he enjoyed the quiet beauty of nature during those trips and often talked about a time when he could live there permanently. Becky, Melissa, and Riley fondly remember summer trips to Mackinac Island together. Chuck thoroughly enjoyed the slower pace of life up north and didn’t miss the hustle and bustle of life downstate. Chuck had many hobbies including wood carving and wood burning, bonsai, and music. In addition to the trombone, he dabbled with guitar and upright bass. He would “jam” with his buddies from high school in their garage before moving out of town. Chuck also enjoyed bowling and poker nights with friends. Chuck was an all-around easy-going guy who was always willing to lend a hand. He knew grocery and convenience store clerks by name and often engaged in friendly conversation with people in his community. He will be deeply missed by all that had the pleasure to know him. Chuck is survived by daughters Becky (Matt Bowker) and Melissa (Jason Cuthrell) Mau; grandson Riley Mau; ex-wife Judy Mau; sister Shirley Erickson; and nephews Craig (Tara) and Mike (Christine) Erickson. He is preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Ruth Mau; and brother-in-law Earl Erickson. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 24, from 1 PM until the 3 PM Memorial Service at Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home, 46401 Ann Arbor Road West (between Sheldon and Beck), Plymouth.
