Kathleen Ann Bellamy

Kathleen “Kathy” Payne Bellamy, 81, of Canton MI, died at home on Thursday, November 21, 2024. She was born on August 8, 1943, in Ogdensburg, NY, where she attended local schools before continuing her education at the State University of New York at Canton. She married her husband, the late Richard “Rich” Bellamy on August 31, 1979, in Troy, NY before relocating to Michigan for Rich’s job with Ford Motor Company in the mid 1980s. Kathy had a successful career as an executive assistant with the Federal Aviation Administration and went on to greatly enjoy retirement. Kathy enjoyed traveling, often accompanying Rich on various business trips and enjoying memorable vacations to Las Vegas, Florida, and special annual visits to Saratoga, NY, where she and Rich loved spending time watching the ponies at the track. Kathy was always up for an adventure, whether it was a trip to the casino, a shopping expedition, or flights to Germany to visit her son Brian and his family. For the past 10 years, she enjoyed annual summer visits from her granddaughter and namesake, Meghan Kathleen, along with Meghan’s husband and children. Kathy was an active member of the Wayneland Eagles Club and enjoyed spending Saturday evenings there with good friends, always returning home with baskets of raffle prizes. The family is grateful to these friends for bringing much joy to Kathy after Rich’s passing and for encouraging her to continue enjoying life. In addition to her parents and husband, Kathy was predeceased by her brothers, Robert, David, and William Payne. She is survived by her three sons, James, Brian, and Scott Griswold, who are left to mourn her loss; her dear sister, Barbara McDonough (Kevin); stepsons, Robert and Richard Bellamy II (Jane); her beloved daughter in law and “bestie”, Cathy Bellamy, whom she loved as a daughter; eleven grandchildren, Meghan Kirby, Colin Griswold, Julian Griswold, Molly Griswold, Caitlin Bellamy, Andrew Bellamy, Richard Bellamy III, Ryan Bellamy, Branson Bellamy, Chad Bellamy, and Brittany Pauli; several loving nieces and nephews; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two former daughters-in-law, Guin Griswold and Debbie Bellamy. Additionally, she is survived by two special longtime friends, Linda Waara and Kim Gartz, with whom she shared countless memories and who provided her with unwavering support. She will be missed by many longtime friends from their Ford Motor Company families in New York and Michigan. Per her wishes, there will be no services. A memorial mass will be planned for summer of 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in Kathy’s name be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause that held a special place in her heart.
