Mildred Ann Avis

Mildred Ann Avis July 31, 1937 – April 3, 2025 Mildred Ann Avis, age 87, of Westland, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025. Born on July 31, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the beloved daughter of Martin Samuel Lebring and Mattiebelle (Davis) Lebring. A proud graduate of Pershing High School in Detroit, Mildred went on to build a life grounded in love, family, faith, and quiet joys. On August 20, 1960, she married the love of her life, Bruce Colbert Avis, who preceded her in death. Together, they raised a close-knit family and shared a passion for camping and travel, often adventuring in their R.V. with their cherished Jeepster in tow. Mildred was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived her faith with grace and warmth. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—long walks, a good book, Detroit Tigers baseball games, and word search puzzles. Her quiet strength, loving presence, and wry sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Martin (Kim) Avis, Michael (Kathleen) Avis, Janet (Richard) Mero, and James (Kathy Mackercher) Avis; her grandchildren: Brad (Katie) Avis, Daniel (Christina) Avis, Katie (Joe) Stulock, Eva-Marie (Jacob) Stanger, Bruce "Cole" Avis, Jason, Michael (Colleen) Stacy, Amber Mero, Desmond Avis, and Quinn Avis, 14 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her brothers, James and Arthur Lebring. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 11, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 7575 North Hix Road, Westland, Michigan 48185. Friends and family are invited to gather beginning at 9:30 a.m., with services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Mildred will lie in state during this time.
